Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Fall 2014

Giambattista Valli’s fall couture collection was inspired by a trip he took years ago to the Alhambra Gardens in Granada, Spain.
"It’s always a love story," Giambattista Valli said about the collection. "I was thinking about Alhambra and those Moorish stripes—it was morning and she just got up and put pieces together."
That mindset could explain the relaxed pajama shirts tucked into feminine pencil skirts or trousers rolled up at the ankle. Embroidered flowers—wisteria, daisies, roses, poppies—that swept over dresses and skirts were plucked directly from Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla’s paintings, while the headscarves and sunglasses were inspired by a poolside photo of former Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland in the Forties. However the more streamlined looks were a mere warmup to the grand finale, which included four ballgown skirts comprised of layered tulle in a dégradé of bold colors.
"The secret of my girls is that they’re always eccentric," Valli said. "They don’t play it. They are.”
